Adam Turer reviews the Reubenator

Between working, studying, and coaching, I rarely have time to eat three square meals a day. I’ve learned to rely on “linner,” a big lunch that will keep me full until later that night or the following day. If you’re really hungry, or if you just can’t get enough of Izzy’s Famous Reuben, behold The Reubenator. Take the classic reuben and make it a double-decker. If you have a big appetite, but are intimidated by the 110 Reuben challenge, place your potato pancake between any of the three slices of bread on the Reubenator to get a taste of the 110’s bold flavors. This sandwich should satisfy any appetite. If you’re still hungry after devouring a Reubenator, you are ready to take on the 110.

You know Adam Turer from his attempt to take down Izzy’s 110 Reuben on Travel Channel’s Man V Food Nation.  Join us as Izzy’s challenges Adam to eat his way through Izzy’s menu in one year.  Adam will share his thoughts as he tries each and every Izzy menu item, while journeying to all local locations throughout the year. Got a specific twist or combination you want him to try?  Leave us a comment on our Facebook page or our twitter account and we will have him try it for you.  As we gave our challenge to Adam, we only had two words: COME HUNGRY!

Veggie Reuben

I’m not known for my vegetarian tendencies. When I think of a sandwich, I think of meat. However, the Veggie Reuben will delight the vegetarian crowd without alienating the traditional carnivores. If your favorite part of a reuben is the sauerkraut, you will especially love this sandwich. I am a big fan of olives and Izzy’s rye roll. A heaping mound of sauerkraut topped with olive topilove and fresh, thick tomatoes and swiss cheese is a nice, light alternative to the classic reuben. You don’t need to be a veg-head to enjoy this take on the World Famous Reuben.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Cake!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream Cake. Do I need to say anything else? I didn’t think so, but I will anyway. The newest dessert on the menu is delightful. The bottom layer of chocolate cake is moist, but not crumbly. The ice cream and whipped cream on top are covered in chocolate chips and cookie dough bites. It’s not overly rich or heavy and can be enjoyed on its own, or after devouring a delicious sandwich. Go get one today, before I eat them all.

T.G.I.F., S.W.C.E.M.B.S.F.I. by Adam Turer

T.G.I.F., S.W.C.E.M.B.S.F.I.  Thank goodness it’s Friday, so we can enjoy matzo ball soup from Izzy’s. This specialty is only served on Fridays, but it is worth the weekly wait. It’s great on a cold Winter day, but just as delicious on a warm Spring day. The fist-sized matzo balls are impressive and tasty. If you don’t want the whole bowl, get the Izzy’s special, a cup of matzo ball soup with half a sandwich of your choice and a side of your choice. Either way, put some matzo in your Friday.

Celebrate Cincy de Mayo!

Celebrate Cinco de Mayo (or any day, really) with the Mex. Izzy’s famous corned beef, topped with jalapenos, sweet yellow onions, melted Swiss and Izzy’s special chipotle sauce on rye toast. You know how I feel about onions, but these sweet yellow onions only add to the flavor. This sandwich will wake you up, but the heat is not overpowering. I wouldn’t think to top the corned beef with onion or jalapeno, but the flavor combination of the ingredients on the Mex is outstanding.
