The Tommy by Adam Turer

I loathe onions, but I trust Izzy’s menu. I took the leap and tried The Tommy just the way I was told to do by Izzy’s menu: “Don’t change a thing . . . great combo!” I survived, and I’ve got to admit—I enjoyed it. I’m still not a fan of the onion flavor, but I did like the crunch. Unlike some sandwich places, Izzy’s puts all of its sandwich toppings through the broiler with the meat. That quick run through the heat perfectly blends the melty swiss cheese, crunchy onion and fresh tomato with the delicious roast beef on The Tommy.  This was the first Izzy’s sandwich I’ve tried on plain white toast and I did miss the flavors found in the rye, pumpernickel, or pretzel bread. The Tommy was a good sandwich for a hot summer day, as it was not as filling as some of the other Izzy’s offerings. I substituted the potato pancake for a side of Izzy’s underrated coleslaw and a polished it off with a refreshing Dr. Brown’s Diet Cream Soda.

You know Adam Turer from his attempt to take down Izzy’s 110 Reuben on Travel Channel’s Man V Food Nation.  Join us as Izzy’s challenges Adam to eat his way through Izzy’s menu in one year.  Adam will share his thoughts as he tries each and every Izzy menu item, while journeying to all local locations throughout the year. Got a specific twist or combination you want him to try?  Leave us a comment on our Facebook page or our twitter account and we will have him try it for you.  As we gave our challenge to Adam, we only had two words: COME HUNGRY!
